The
History of Eastside Junior High
The first Little Rock High School, more
commonly known as old East Side School, was built in 1904. It is the oldest
building now standing that has housed Little Rock high school students. The
building an early addition, Colonial Revival in style, were designed by two
important architects of early 20th Quarter neighborhood which is experiencing a
revival of care and preservation of its old Victorian homes. The existence of a
school building on the block, the original and traditional use of the property,
is important to preserving the character of that neighborhood.
The Project
The Arc of Arkansas has formed a
partnership with Bell/Corley Investments and has purchased the old Eastside
Junior High School at 14th and Scott Streets, in downtown Little Rock. We have
contracted with The Vanadis Group Developers to put together a 3.6 million
dollar rehabilitation of the school and turn it into forty-one loft apartments
for people with and without disabilities.

The apartments were officially opened
during an open house ceremony on Wednesday, January 23, 2002.
The Arc of Arkansas
wishes to acknowledge and thank those who are responsible for transforming
Eastside Loft Apartments from a dream to a reality.
